Adventures of a Christ-follower
There are a variety of ways to view the Christian life. The Bible even gives us a few metaphors through which to view our experiences: farming, soldiering, boxing, running. These are all extremely helpful in certain situations. When it's time to be patient, it helps to think like a farmer. When we struggle against the schemes of the devil, the world, or our own sinful desires, it's best to think like a soldier or boxer. And when we're tired and we think we can't go any further, the mindset of a runner can help push us through the finish line.
For the big picture, however, I have found the idea of an adventure to be the most constructive view. Adventures are long engagements with many different directions and episodes. They require preparation and training. Skills, equipment, and provisions are needed. There are many challenges and surprises along the way. This all perfectly describes the Christian life.
Moreover, the idea of an adventure is a positive image, unlike some caricatures of the Christian life. One of these views says that the life of a Christ-follower is a list of do's & don'ts. Others say that this life is a temporal down payment on the eternal - kind of a "pay now, enjoy later" deal. But both views have it wrong. While there is a kernel of truth to what they say, neither view is big enough to describe the whole of the Christian experience. Does the Christian life involve some do's & don'ts? Sure it does. Is the afterlife for the believer way better than this life? Oh yes! But that doesn't mean this life should be a drudgery. There is so much more, and it's good stuff!
This website exists to show you all that good stuff, and, once you're motivated to go after it, to prepare and equip you for your own Christ-following adventure. On this site you will find a blog and a store filled with the information you need to go for it. Now, on to the Great Adventure . . .
